Chenonceau and Montpoupon, the playground of nobility.
A sample tour:
We meet you at St Pierre des Corps station and from there drive along the Cher River valley to the château of Chenonceau, stopping at a village café on the way. At Chenonceau, once home to Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers, we accompany you through the château or if you prefer, allow you time to explore on your own. With us you will hear not just the history of the building, but how its contents are cared for now. Those of you who love flowers will be enthralled by the magnificence of the floral decorations in each room. Once back outside we walk through the gardens and visit the "model farm", potager and cutting garden.
Lunch is taken at one of our favorite restaurants in the area, before driving through rolling countryside to the Château of Montpoupon. One of the lesser known château of the Loire Valley, its rooms and outbuildings are presented to allow a glimpse of life there over the centuries.
No trip to the Loire Valley would be complete without sampling some of the excellent wines the area produces, so on our return to Tours we make a diversion to take in views of the some of the world renowned vineyards before stopping at a cave (winery) to sample their wares. We have several favourite vineyards, producing a range of wines both still and sparkling, red, white and rosé. The winemakers are always happy to talk to visitors and pass on their passion for their craft. These are family businesses, traditional, but also very open to innovation and modern ideas in the industry.
In Tours you have the option to either return directly to Paris, or dine in one of the city's restaurants before catching the train.
