Description

The Mediterranean Steps in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve in Gibraltar is a 1.5km walk, up numerous old steps to the top of the Rock of Gibraltar.

The walk starts from near the Jews Gate entrance to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve on Queens Road (at Lat Long 36 07 15.44 N 5 20 45.54 W).

The walk takes about 2 hours, at winds up a set of steps hewn out of the limestone, set against the cliff face.

Lord Airey's 9.2" battery (also Ohara's Battery) is located at the top of the trail (the top of Mediterranean Steps is at lat long 36 07 31.25 N 5 20 35.55 W), guarding the approaches to the Straits of Gibraltar.

A great trail for nature watching, with stunning views from the top.

Great walk with great views although it was blowing a gale when I went up in the winter!
