Medeival Market on up at the Sohail Castle in Fuengirola this week. All free. Lots of stuff for kids - rides puzzles cakes, stalls selling goods, etc. Good fun.

A good chill out bar (Terraza del Castillo) is open at the castle at the moment (until 9th August) with a range of food on offer. Great place to have a few drinks on a night with cool breezes and great views. They also have the international beer festival (Fiesta de La Cerveza) up here from 23rd July to 2nd August.

....(continued from above comment) in front of the Sohail Castle and fires along the beaches. Thousands of all ages enjoy the party which gets going about 11pm and finishes in the early hours of the next day. The Virgin del Carmen celebration in Los Boliches is also one to get along to - UK Health and safety would have a fit as the huge and heavy Virgin Float is carried into the sea (in the dark with many boats just off shore) by about 40 strong men, and followed in by hundreds of spectators. Then an incredible fireworks display at about midnight. A great place - please don't do as I did - drive along the front once and get the opinion it’s a ‘down market brit bar place’ - you will be missing a great Spanish town.

I have lived close to Fuengirola for a few years now - I was initially a little snobby about the place thinking it was a down market brit drinking hole but living here has changed my views completely. Its a great place, step backl a few yards from the brit bars of the front line and you find a superb Spanish town with much to enjoy. Take a glass of wine on the main main sqaure, enjoy great tapas at Pinxtos (near the station) or superb steaks at Ponchos or Estilo Campo. And Fuengirola Feria is superb - the best of many I have visited in Spain. The whole town seems to turn out and party for the duration (6th to 12th October - every year) - Imaculately dressed in traditional costume, with many of the menfolk on Horseback (and several of the women) it is a sight to behold. Something for everyone - the fun fair for the kids and the casitas (bars) for the adults - lots of flamenco! The Fuengirola San Juan party on the beach (23rd June every year) is also superb with live music i
