Description
Extreme Caving at Spirit Well Cave at the height of 200 meters.
The longest and most spectacular caves are in Pang Mapha District, a small district in the north of Maehongson, with the mountain landscape. Most of the populations are hill tribes such as Lishu, Lahu and Yao. There are 11 villages: Bann Maelana, Bann Pang Kam, Bann Maihung, Bann Jabo, Bann Yapanae, Bann Padang, Bann Mailun, Bann Huayhia, Bann Lukkaolam, Bann Papuek, Bann Borkrai.
The Shan, Lahu, Karen, Lisu and Hmong people who inhabit the area today are relatively recent arrivals and, like the prehistoric inhabitants, they were attracted by the vast natural resources of this fascinating area. The Spirit Well Cave at Pang Mapha District of Maehongson province is extraordinarily massive. The entrance of the cave is the size of 2 football fields. Then you descend for 200 meters. Down Under is still unexplored, collapsed cave with an untouched, primeval forest at the base. The area has lots of potential for undiscovered systems.
The only way to go in and out is just by the Single Rope Technique.
We’ll take you for a journey from the town of Chiang Mai, on the highway no.1095 Mae Malai – Maehongsorn toward the town of Pai. It’ll take total of three hours and a half to Pai. The look out from the window on both sides will change from forest to see some of the lazy water buffaloes grazing along side brilliant green rice paddies.
“Pai” has been popular for European and Japanese travelers for a decade, but for Thai it has only been booming for the pass couple of years. Pai is a small town well known for the romantic, charming and peaceful. Surround by mountains like an Oasis in the middle of a desert. It is next to the border of Myanmar. Rainy season offer you beautiful views of greenish rice fields long until it reach the foot of the mountains, which can use for growing garlic in the winter. In a winter cozy morning Pai is covered with mists, offering you a very peaceful environment with warm sunshine through the blue skies and a look out to the Pine tree that line up along the mountains. The magnificent view of the huts along Pai river. We’ll have our lunch in Pai and continue to Bann Lukkaolam, a Black Lahu Hill Tribe Village (used for filming a very popular Thai movie “Ruck Jung”) – where the remote nature and general lack of access roads into the village keep this a wonderful place far off the beaten tourist path.
The Spirit Well Cave is considered to be at a professional level. We provide all the instruction you will need with internationally trained and certified instructors and guides. Firstly learning and practicing on single rope technique at The Peak’s rock climbing wall at the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. The single rope technique is a set of methods used to descend and ascend vertical ropes.Descent uses various forms of friction brake to control speed. The most commonly used are the Petzl "stop" and "bobbin", and four or five bar "racks". For safety, especially on drops with complex rigging with intermediate belays, it is essential that the abseiling device can be removed from the rope without being unclipped from the user's harness. For ascent, cammed devices are used that can be pushed up the rope but that lock and hold the user's weight when a downward force is applied; these must also be easily removable from the rope without being detached from the user. The rope needs to be strong and stretch with the factory standard and be able to take the weight up to 2.4 KN at least 60 meters long. On the first 10 meters your feet will still be touching parts of the cliff, but the rest of 190 meters your feet will not be touching anything at all. No matter, who you are, your adrenaline will never stop pumping until you reach the bottom. Don’t forget that you will have to go up the same way that you came down. No matter if you ever have any experience; our experienced and concern about your safety team are waiting to give you the new experience of adventure. Come to join with us at The Peak Adventure Tour.
